Over four thousand years ago Buddha, the Jade Emperor, invited twelve animals to attend his birthday party. As a reward each creature would be gifted with a year. The animal’s spirit would rule its year and the spirit would hide in the hearts of those born then. Horse galloped rapidly, rushing to claim its year. Snake hid inside Horse’s hoof. Upon arriving at the party Snake leaped out and the startled Horse fell back. Snake then jumped ahead, arriving before Horse. Thus Snake became the sixth of the twelve animals Buddha rewarded with stewardship over a year upon creation of the Oriental zodiac. Five Elements (Fire, Water, Metal, Earth and Wood) distinguish the animals. Every sixty years the pattern of Element-animal pairs repeats. 2025 is the Green Wood Snake’s Year. Snake has a flexible and inspirational nature. Setting realistic goals to work toward cherished dreams this year replaces the Dragon’s flash and flamboyance with a mysterious charm and elegance. Wisdom and strategy are the focus. Snake sheds its skin and emerges reborn, appearing transformed. This year brings significant changes, exploration of new opportunities and the release of old habits and fixed ideas. Uncoil. Slither forward and work your serpentine magic. This is thought to be a good time to have a child. Those born in a Snake year are often gifted and talented. Fashionable dreamers, they are also charismatic and charitable.
