THE WITCHES’ ALMANAC is pleased to present Harry M. Hyatt’s seminal work Hoodoo—Conjuration—Witchcraft—
Rootwork. This masterwork of Hyatt’s first published in five thick volumes during the years of 1970-1978 has
long been near impossible to obtain.
Working closely with Michael Edward Bell, Harry Hyatt’s protégé, they collected field notes of Hyatt that have been supplemented with his other major work on folklore, Folklore from Adams County Illinois.
Additionally, to these very important volumes has been added Michael Edward Bell’s comprehensive doctoral
dissertation, Pattern, Structure, and Logic in Afro-American Hoodoo Performance (1980), which uses Hyatt’s
Hoodoo—Conjuration—Witchcraft—Rootwork as its main source. Bell’s dissertation may also be used as a subject-
index to Hyatt’s five volumes.
Hyatt had also prepared an album of 4 phonograph records (8 sides in all) containing most of an interview he had recorded with one of his informants, which we are also making it available as an mp3 file to purchasers of this reprint. The audio download is available at the time of purchase.
Lastly, the purchaser will have online access to searchable files of Hoodoo—Conjuration—Witchcraft—Rootwork.
